Every September, seven alpine dairy families in traditional costumes and chüjer parade with 300 cows and cattle from their rustic alpine huts around Sörenberg down to Schüpfheim - accompanied by colourful folklore groups. The magnificent procession through the village is still the highlight of the Entlebucher Alpabfahrt, which has long since become much more than a traditional festival day for alpine herdsmen and dairymaids.
The largest annual event in the region gives guests from near and far the unique opportunity to experience folk traditions as they are lived and breathed: the flag is waved, the alphorn is blown or yodelling is done with great passion. At the big market you can buy the best from the region - from alpine cheese to sausage and jam. And in the lovingly decorated pubs of local associations, there is plenty to eat and drink.
