The Escholzmatt-Wiggen-Marbach hiking trail, which is suitable for baby carriages, is equipped with comfortable and varied rest areas.

The hiking trail from Escholzmatt to Wiggen and Marbach is ideal for families, as there are no major ascents and descents and several lovely places to stop for a rest. There are lots of interesting things for young and old to discover and play with.

The hiking trail starts at Escholzmatt railroad station and first follows the railroad line to Gigenstrasse, where you turn off towards Gigen. On this stretch you have a good view of the local Beichle mountain and the gently rolling landscape. The striking round humps were shaped by earlier glaciations. They got their present shape from the ice of the Waldemme glacier. You can find out more about this on the geological trail.

After the Gigen, you walk back towards the main road. The hiking trail then leads along the Äschlibach towards Wiggen. At Kreuzmatte Wiggen there is a new rest area with a barbecue site and playground, perfect for a first stop. A shelter with tables provides ample space to linger. The Villa Kunterbunt and other original play equipment immediately captivate the children.

Refreshed, the route continues to Wiggen, where you cross the road after the turn-off towards Marbach and then walk along the Ilfis to Marbach. Another lovely rest area awaits at the Schachenhus pond. Here too there is a new shelter with tables and benches. This offers shade or protection from the rain and invites you to linger. Comfortable loungers are available to rest and enjoy. From here you walk along the Schonbach stream to the village of Marbach. Here you can choose from a wide range of excursions. A visit to the adventure cheese dairy is right on the way. Or you can hike a little further to the valley station of the Marbachegg gondola lift and take a 10-minute gondola ride up to Marbachegg, where an unexpected, special view awaits: Schibegütsch and Hohgant form the horizon, with the view of the Bernese High Alps with the Schreckhorn, Finsteraarhorn and Eiger opening up in between.
