The hiking tour starts directly at the train station in Schüpfheim. From here, walk along the road until you see the Wolfgang district on the right-hand side at the bend. Cross the district and follow the path to Chlusboden. From here you walk along the "old Fruttegweg". This was built in 1872/73 and can be described as one of the most outstanding road monuments in Entlebuch and the wider region. The construction of the Alpstrasse was a major investment for the private developers. It was built at a time when agriculture was going through a major restructuring crisis, although the cheese trade with its export business was hardly affected.
The historic mule track with its impressive dry stone walls leads you up to Fruttegg. Once at the top, follow the route to Farnere (1572m). The two benches at the summit cross invite you to take an extended breather. You have the choice of either sitting on the bench with a view of the protective forest and down to Schüpfheim and the extensive Napf region, or looking to the other side towards the Entlebuch mountains. The view sweeps from the Risete over the Schimbrig to the Gebiergszug with Äbnistettenfluh, Schafmatt and Schwändlifluh. Behind the Brienzergrat, the triumvirate of the Eiger, Möch and Jungfrau emerge and, of course, the Schrattenfluh and Beichle cannot be missed on the right. Fortunately, there is a panorama board at the summit cross where you can read and identify all the summit names.
Rested, the route now zigzags uphill to the Stolehüttli. Here, a barbecue area with firewood storage and a cozy shelter invite you to linger. Take a rest on one of the benches and enjoy the view of the village of Schüpfheim. From Stolehüttli, you hike steadily downhill until you return to the village of Schüpfheim.
